Description
1961: "TIROS" EYE IN THE SKY: "TIROS III" is launched successfully from Cape Canaveral and goes aloft as a hurricane tracker. Equipped with two television cameras that record pictures over a 500,000 square mile area, the satellite will be able to warn weatherman of the birth of hurricanes. Circling the earth at 500 miles the TIROS is expected to be in orbit for several years.
