Scientist behind HIV breakthrough reflects on 30 years progress May 20th marks 30 years since the the virus now known as HIV was first isolated in the lab. Responsible for the breakthrough was a team of French scientists working at the Pasteur Institute in Paris, two of whom were later awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine for their work.
