Norwegian war hero Joachim Roenneberg receives Union Jack Medal Norwegian war hero and resistance fighter Joachim Roenneberg was on Thursday honoured in Britain for his actions during World War II. Roenneberg, who was trained in Britain during the war, led a six-man team for Operation Gunnerside in an attack on the Norsk Hydo heavy water production plant in Vermok Norway which prevented Nazi Germany from successfully developing an atomic bomb.
