Neglect and decay threaten historic Algiers Kasbah The Kasbah in Algiers still evokes the spirit of a 16th century port that for so long greeted European voyagers and explorers but over the centuries war and natural disasters have taken their toll. With its rich history, winding whitewashed alleyways and enviable Mediterranean location, the Kasbah of Algiers has been a UNESCO world heritage site for 20 years.
