Colombia: Alvaro Uribe's popular return to politics Former Colombian president Alvaro Uribe is getting ready to return to politics. After heading the country from 2002 to 2010, he is now running for senator. Favoring a hard-line policy against the FARC rebels, he is the main challenger to the current president Juan Manual Santos’s authority and a fierce opponent to the peace negotiations presently underway between the guerilla movement and the Colombian government.
