Description
Victorian Tunnel brought back to life for Crossrail The disused Connaught rail tunnel in London which dates back to the 19th century is being brought back to life for the Crossrail project, a new transport link to connect east and west London. The 550m long tunnel runs below the Royal Docks and next to London City Airport. The Victorian tunnel was built in 1878 and has been disused since 2006. It is the only existing tunnel that is being brought back into use for Crossrail. Work is taking place to deepen, stenghten and widen the structure to ensure that it is ready for the arrival of Crossrail trains in 2018. Images and soundbites.
