Hamas-hired employees queue for owed salaries in Gaza Palestinian Hamas-hired employees waited in long lines on Thursday to receive salaries that have been owed by Hamas, in some cases for months. Since signing the reconciliation agreement in April between Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, and Fatah, which has the majority of its support in the West Bank, Hamas has demanded the new government take responsibility for paying its 45,000 employees, some 27,000 of which are civil servants.
