New Turkish Cypriot leader says UN peace talks will resume soon Newly-elected Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci officially took office in Nicosia on Thursday, replacing nationalist incumbent Dervis Eroglu as leader of the breakaway Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). Akinci, a longtime champion of reunifying the island, said UN peace talks would resume next week for a solution to an issue that "poses serious threats to our island and to our region's peace."
