Thousands of Gauchito Gil devotees gather in Argentina In Argentina, thousands of Gauchito Gil devotees brave the rain to take part in a pilgrimage to honour the folk saint whose supposed miracles and protection has brought him followers from all over Argentina and from several bordering countries. Gauchito Gil, previously known as Antonio Mamerto Gil was shot dead by police on January 8, 1878, since then the cowboy continued to live on as a saint for Argentina's humblest becoming one of the most important figures of its kind in South America.
