FILE: Gov of Colombia and ELN guerilla to start peace talks The Colombian government and the ELN, the country's last guerrilla group, are to commence peace negotiations Tuesday after over 50 years of conflict as both parties have respected pre-peace talk conditions by liberating detainees. Two rebels held by the government, Nixon Cobos and Leivis Valero, were released in exchange for ex-lawmaker Odin Sanchez. ELN rebels also released Fredy Moreno Mahecha in a surprise goodwill gesture on the eve of the talks. These peace negotiations take place whilst the Colombian President, Juan Manuel Santos, is surveilling the disarmament process of the FARC, the largest rebel group in Colombia. The Colombian conflict has killed more than 260,000 people and left 60,000 missing since the 1960’s, according to authorities. FILE IMAGES on ELN.
