Description
New York honors first homeless Girl Scout troop The first Girl Scout troop in New York made up entirely of girls from homeless families was honored on Tuesday at New York City Hall. Girl Scout Troop 6000 was given an official City Council Proclamation to recognize their unique status. Mother of five Giselle Burgess founded the group in February, and it now has over 20 members. Burgess is herself homeless after her rented apartment was sold to developers and she was unable to find alternative accommodation. She and her children, including three daughters who are in Troop 6000, live in temporary accommodation provided by the city. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
