French vote: Abstentionists giving their vote to foreigners In France, hundreds of voters are opting for foreigners living in France to choose who they vote for in the upcoming presidential election. In France, you can only vote if you have French citizenship, leaving most expatriates without a ballot. With fears of high levels of abstention and ‘blank’ voting in Sunday’s run-off, Alter-Votants was established to offer would-be abstentionists an alternative whilst also highlighting the contribution of foreigners to France. Over 500 electors took part in the intitiative for the first round of voting, momentum that the founders hope will continue for the second-round and in June’s legislative elections.
