Irak: Kirkuk residents divided over referendum Curfew was lifted early Tuesday on parts of the Iraqi city of Kirkuk, where it had been imposed on the city centre and non-Kurdish neighbourhoods over fears of unrest connected with the historic independence referendum. The city of about one million is divided between Arab, Kurdish and Turkmen populations and took part in the vote despite not being part of northern Iraq's autonomous Kurdish region.
