Description
Prague singers take to streets, station to sing mass Hundreds of singers in Prague gather in places including the picturesque Charles Bridge and the main train station to sing the Czech Christmas Mass by Jakub Jan Ryba. They perform the 45-minute pastoral mass accompanied by volunteer orchestras and led by professional conductors and soloists. The tradition started next to Charles Bridge in 1989, after the fall of Communism in former Czechoslovakia. The railway station concerts are younger. Ryba (1765-1815), a prolific composer and a teacher, composed the mass in 1796. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
