Turkish daily depicts Merkel as Hitler on front page A Turkish pro-government newspaper depicts German Chancellor Angela Merkel on its front page in a Nazi uniform with a Hitler-style moustache. The newspaper, known for its sharp attacks on opponents of the government, accused the German federal government of providing protection to "terrorist groups" and of defending two Greek soldiers who have been detained in Turkey since the beginning of March for violating a restricted area. After Merkel had expressed her "very great concern" about developments in Turkey, Yeni Akit wrote under the title "This mentality worries us". The newspaper also accused Angela Merkel of supporting the "terrorism" of the Gülen movement and of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and not condemning attacks on mosques in Germany.
