'Rossi' neighbourhood wins Florence's gladiator football match Every year on the feast day of Florence's patron saint, John the Baptist (24 June), teams from two of the city's four historic neighbourhoods do battle in a sport known as 'Calcio Storico' that combines football and rugby skills into something that resembles a mass brawl in historical costume.
