Soviet tanks vs US filmmakers, a battle that was not to be Czech pensioners recall the time when the Soviet army invaded Czechoslovakia in August 1968 to crush a liberal movement known as the Prague Spring. One strange moment occurred when Soviet tanks encountered American and German military vehicles in the small town of Davle just south of Prague. These were in fact film props used for the shooting of the 1969 war movie “The Bridge at Remagen” starring George Segal and Robert Vaughn, which tells the story of how the US Army took hold of a last bridge still standing across the Rhine in March 1945.
