Heightened security in second round of presidential election Malians begin voting in a second round of the presidential election under high security and allegations of fraud, in a country still facing a jihadist threat despite five years of international military interventions. During the first round of voting, 871 offices (more than 3%) remained closed due to violence, preventing nearly 250,000 Malians from voting, especially in the Centre and North.
