Burkina: foundation stone laid for monument to ex-leader Sankara The foundation stone of a monument to Thomas Sankara is laid Monday in Ouagadougou, 31 years to the day after the murder of the father of the Burkinabe revolution, sometimes referred to as the "African Che". The 5-metre-high statue will be erected at the headquarters of the National Revolutionary Council, where President Sankara was killed by a commando on 15 October 1987 at the age of 37.
