Thousands take part in Cape Town's annual street parade Over 50 minstrel troupes and thousands of spectators take to the streets of Cape Town to celebrate the annual 2nd January street parade. The parade is an age old tradition in Cape Town and dates back to the slavery era, when slaves were allowed to celebrate New Year's Day on the 2nd of January.
