UNESCO funds restoration of Mali monument destroyed by jihadists During the 2012 crisis in Mali, various UNESCO world heritage sites were destroyed by jihadists. As part of its programme to restore these destroyed sites, UNESCO is financing the rehabilitation of the Al Farouk monument in the centre of Timbuktu, at a cost of over 200 million CFA francs.
