First woman elected head of DRC's National Assembly A woman, Jeanine Mabunda, is elected leader of the National Assembly for the first time in the Democratic Republic of Congo, in a session boycotted by opposition Members of Parliament. A former minister and an adviser to ex-President Joseph Kabila on combating sexual violence, Ms Mabunda received 375 votes out of 383 votes cast (500 deputies in total).
