Description
Remembering D-Day with French seaman who "policed the sea" On June 6, 1944, Georges Ménage photographed the Normandy landings on Utah beach. A merchant seaman who had spent "four years" training for D-Day, he had been part of the crew of "La Renoncule", an escort boat which "policed the sea" and helped 23,000 American soldiers to land in Normandy. Having been kitted out with a camera and film, he took many photographs of the landings, some of which feature in books on the subject. A few days before the 75th anniversary of D-Day, AFPTV meets with the 97-year-old French veteran. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
