Hungary and Austria mark 30 years since Iron Curtain opening The foreign minsters of Hungary and Austria mark 30 years since the opening of the Iron Curtian, dividing the Soviet Union from Western Europe. The ceremony took place in Sapron on the Hungarian border with Austria where, on 27 June 1989, Hungary's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gyula Horn, and his Austrian counterpart, Alois Mock, symbolically cut a barbed-wire fence between the two countries.
