Illegal rubbish dumps are defacing parts of Ile-de-France Mountains of waste piled up along the road, near the Seine or in the middle of a forest: illegal dumping by private individuals and construction companies in particular is an on-going problem in France's Ile-de-France region. Matters aren't helped by the difficulty in prosecuting offenders. In Carrières-sous-Poissy (Yvelines), a 330 hectare plot of land is now partly covered by a "sea of waste". IMAGES
