Belgrade takes down its 'Victor' for restoration The statue of Pobednik (the Victor in Serbian), a symbol of Belgrade overlooking the confluence of the Danube and Sava rivers from the Kalemegdan fortress, is taken down to be restored. The statue was held in a shed in Belgrade until 1928 when it was taken out to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Salonica front breakthrough which accelerated the defeat of the Axis forces.
