Description
Mini version of Ingres' 'Odalisque' on display in Paris It is small, but exceptional: a miniature of Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres (1780-1867) 'Odalisque', measuring 11 x 6.5 centimetres, is exhibited at Christie's in Paris before being sold at auction in New York in 2020. Estimated at between $700,000 and $1 million, it belongs to the collection of Jayne Wrightsman, an American philanthropist who died in the spring of 2019. The painting was created around 1829, around 15 years after the monumental work it appears to be based upon. This miniature was presented in 1829 to Jean-Pierre-François Gilibert, a very close friend of Ingres, who also came from Montauban. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
