The Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix (Chamonix Mountain Guide Company), the founding institution of mountaineering, is celebrating its 200th anniversary with a huge party of 200 people roped together on the glaciers of the Vallée Blanche, in the Mont Blanc massif, between the Aiguille du Midi and the Pointe Helbronner, on the Italian border, at an altitude of more than 3,000 metres.
