Description
Every two weeks, the Soweto-based cycling crew, Biking Bandits, host a 'Homies Night ride', an evening route through the streets of Soweto. The nighttime jaunts have infiltrated urban hip culture since starting in March, attracting scores of young black riders across the township famous as the birthplace of the anti-apartheid movement. Not only is it good fun and exercise, but it is also "a political statement," according to co-founder Tiyiselani Mashele, as it is a way to create visibility of black people on bicycles, reclaiming the streets.
