For her film "Aline", a biopic of Celine Dion, actress and director Valérie Lemercier presents her as a gawky nerd who sailed from child stardom to become a stadium-filling international star. The film-makers say they tweaked the star's name to Aline Dieu to give them some wriggle room over the details of her story. But there was never any suggestion that the film would do anything but fawn over the star. "There was no desire to make a parody", says co-writer Brigitte Buc during a press conference.
