Description
Ashes are still smouldering at the foot of charred trees on a hillside overlooking vineyards near Fontcouverte, in the southern Aude region of France. They were caused by a fire that burned 850 hectares of vegetation in the Alaric mountain, forcing 800 firefighters to take action throughout the night. At midday, the fire seemed to be contained but firefighters fear "a risk of recurrence because of the drought". IMAGES
