Description
The Oakland Police Department in California uses a virtual simulator to train new and veteran officers on de-escalation and use of force. The training program puts officers through 12 different scenarios, including a man armed with a machete and a shootout in the middle of a street. "I will say that it does help when you have situations like what we've seen in Minnesota, related to George Floyd," Oakland Police Chief LeRonne Armstrong says. "When you see incidents occur, it allows you as a department to begin to train on similar incidents." IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
