Description
From Staten Island, David Diggins looks out onto the Hudson Bay at Manhattan and its looming skyscrapers. Diggins stands on a hill, under which lies rubble from the World Trade Center. Diggins stood on the same spot 20 years ago, in the Fresh Kills Landfill, where he witnessed the September 11 terrorist attacks and the crumbling of the two towers. The New York City Public Works employee knew immediately his team would be called into Ground Zero – in fact, it was Diggins himself who supervised the colossal clean-up project in the weeks that followed. Today, Fresh Kills Landfill is closed and is in plans to become a park. But some victims’ families feel the rubble below has not been thoroughly examined and could still contain the remains of their loved ones. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES ARRANGED IN SEQUENCES
