Baby panda Xiao Qi Ji celebrates his first birthday by eating a fruitsicle cake with his mother Mei Xiang at the Smithsonian's National Zoo in Washington, DC, in front of delighted visitors. "The panda cam has been lovely to be able to follow him but it's so much better in person!" says Elizabeth Len, who came early in the morning to snatch a good viewing spot. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
