Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen receives her first locally developed COVID-19 vaccine, lending support to domestic pharmaceuticals and to boost public confidence in locally developed vaccines. Tsai held off her own innoculation for the local COVID-19 vaccine made by Medigen Vaccine Biologics Corporation, which the island's health ministry approved for emergency use last month.
About 40 percent of Taiwan's population have been vaccinated with one dose of foreign-made AstraZeneca or Moderna shots. President Tsai has made it a strategic priority to develop locally made vaccines amid a worldwide shortage. IMAGES
