West Africa bloc ECOWAS states that it is "worried" about the potential for a delay to elections in Mali, which are meant to restore civilian rule in the country. The Sahel state's ruling strongman Colonel Assimi Goita has pledged to hold elections in February 2022, but there are doubts about whether this is possible within a short timeframe. ECOWAS mediator Goodluck Jonathan also took the opportunity to condemn the redcent coup d'état in Guinea Conakry, saying "ECOWAS does not accept any military intervention."
