Taliban soldiers cradling AK-47s and M16 assault rifles mingle among families with young children at Kabul Zoo, and for most of the fighters such a tourist attraction is a novelty.
"Since the people of Kabul are happy and visit tourist sites after lunch on Friday, we also wanted to do some sightseeing. We, along with other Afghans, are happy to have a picnic on Friday afternoon," says 40-year-old Abdul Qadir, who works for the Department of Terrorism, Ministry of Interior Affairs.
