The date was August 5, 1979 and chances are, if you were a rock 'n' roll fan, you were probably there. 55,000 revelers packed San Diego Stadium that day to see Blue Oyster Cult, Cheap Trick, UFO, Pat Travers and Shakin' Street. News 8 reporter Jesse Macias says "police and security guards will remember the concert as one of the best with relatively few arrests being made." 93 to be exact!
It was festival seating--pick your own. I was there and don't recall seeing any fights break out fighting over seats. I was seventeen years old and had the time of my life at my first big rock concert. I'm 59 now and 42 years later, I'll never forget it! Cheap Trick was my favorite of course because I had just moved here from Illinois--they're from Rockford. But it was still light out when Pat Travers sang Boom Boom out go the lights--and the crowd sang along--I remember that vividly. A day to remember. Were you there?
