Description
STOCKSHOTS of the city of Sevastopol, the largest city on the Crimean Peninsula, and its most important port and naval base. On March 16, 2014 pro-Moscow officials in Crimea held a referendum on seceding from Ukraine and joining Russia. An overwhelming 97 percent of Crimeans voted in favour, although the move was deemed illegal by Kiev and Western capitals. The seizure of the peninsula helped spark a separatist uprising in eastern Ukraine that has claimed more than 13,000 lives. STOCKSHOTS
