American magician Kayla Drescher rehearses her show at Magic Castle, an iconic Los Angeles stage where the young woman is now a regular. But behind this rising star of the profession is a male tradition from which women have difficulty emerging: "Amongst anyone that calls himself a magician, so that ranges from a hobbyist, your uncle Bob with the coin coming out of your ear, all the way to David Copperfield, about 7% of someone who calls themselves a magician, 7% are women. And anybody that makes an actual career, whether it be full time pro, or semi professional, about 2% of those magicians are women," says the 31-year-old performer.
