Description
Visitors take photos of a giant inflatable sculpture by American artist KAWS in Singapore, despite the exhibition's closure due to a legal dispute.
"It's quite a pity, because it's a rare chance to see it," says one visitor.
The 42-metre artwork was scheduled to open to the public on Sunday, but a local non-profit arts organization obtained a last-minute court injunction to stop the exhibition from taking place.
The exhibition KAWS: HOLIDAY features artist Brian Donnelly's signature character COMPANION, a mouse-like figure with crosses for eyes, reclining in front of Singapore's skyline while cradling a miniature version of itself.
The 42-metre artwork was scheduled to open to the public on Sunday, but The Ryan Foundation, a local non-profit arts organization, obtained a last-minute court injunction to stop the exhibition from taking place.
The exhibition was closed on Sunday, but fans still turned up to take photos and admire the artwork from behind barriers. The only ones able to get close to the giant sculpture were a family of otters who briefly climbed onto the platform where it lay.
A Singapore court has ordered that the exhibition and the sale of merchandise be stopped as they were in breach of The Ryan Foundation’s intellectual property rights and involved the misuse of confidential information, the organization said in a statement.
Hong Kong-based organiser AllRightsReserved said in a statement that the accusations were "groundless" and added that the company will challenge the court order.
Singapore is the seventh stop for the exhibition, following stops in Seoul, Taipei, Hong Kong, Japan, a trip to outer space, and the United Kingdom.
