President of Equatorial Guinea Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo gives a press conference following a congress held by his ruling party, Democratic Party of Equatorial Guinea (PDGE). In a surprise move during the congress, his party failed to nominate a presidential candidate for the 2023 elections. Obiang had been expected to be nominated for a sixth term at the event as he approaches 42 years in office.
