Description
"It's only been a short time that I've been able to recognise myself as a black man": Brazilian artist Maxwell Alexandre, 31, grew up in Rio de Janeiro's largest slum, Rocinha. It is there that he creates his gigantic paintings, on orange-brown kraft paper known as "pardo", a direct reference to his skin colour. He exhibits them at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris.
