Description
Kenyan athletes run a 10 kilometre race in Iten, a high-altitude training hub in the west of the country for top runners, in homage to long distance running star Agnes Tirop who was found dead at her home there on October 13, barely a month after she broke the world women-only record in the 10km. Tirop's death threw a spotlight on the pressures faced by the country's female athletes who pay a huge -- and often tragic -- price for their spectacular success in a male-dominated society. "We hope that with this race we end gender-based violence," says Vivian Chesang, a friend of Tirop attending the event. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
