Description
Karl Nehammer, a former soldier and Austria's interior minister, speaks after being sworn in as the new chancellor. Born in Vienna, 49-year-old Nehammer rose to the ranks of senior lieutenant but left the military for a career in the conservative OeVP party, where critics say he joined the ranks as a "loyal party soldier", working in several key positions and gaining the support of the conservative's largest stronghold before becoming interior minister in early 2020.
