A volcanic eruption on the Spanish island of La Palma has shown the first signs that it might be coming to an end after nearly three months of activity. The eruption could be considered officially over if the inactivity observed over the last 48 hours continues for another "ten days", according to Maria José Blanco, director of the National Geographic Institute (IGN) on the Canary Islands.
