Senegalese President Macky Sall has described the commissioning of the new Dakar Regional Express Train (TER) as a "historic step" towards an "emerging Senegal". The TER, which will have cost more than a billion euros, is supposed to put an end to the massive traffic jams in the West African metropolis. The train is expected to connect the 36 km between Dakar and the town of Diamniadio in about 20 minutes, a stretch on which users usually spend hours in cars. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
