Description
Closed shops and near empty streets paint a bleak picture in Valandovo, North Macedonia, a European Union candidate country whose young people are fleeing en masse in search of a better life elsewhere, especially in Western Europe. But there's no guarantee that young people will remain in the country even if it does join the European bloc; in Croatia some 250,000 Croats have left their country since joining in 2013.
