Paris Mayor and Socialist presidential candidate Anne Hidalgo says her proposal to hold a primary election for left-wing candidates has failed “so far,” as she pays tribute to the late former French President Francois Mitterrand in his hometown of Jarnac. The Green party, the far-left France Unbowed party and the Communist party have rejected Hidalgo’s proposal. Polls predict Hidalgo would obtain about 5 percent of the votes in the election.
