Description
Wassim Mukdad is a plaintiff in the first court case worldwide over state-sponsored torture by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's government and is eagerly awaiting the verdict against former intelligence colonel Anwar Raslan. Raslan faces life imprisonment for the deaths of 58 detainees in Al-Khatib prison where Wassim Mukdad was imprisoned. In August 2020, standing before the German court, Mukdad described being blindfolded and interrogated three times in the prison. Lashes also flew, lacerating the soles of his feet -- targeted in particular for the excruciating pain every time he later tried to stand up or walk. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
